Post-surgery recovery at home: a week-by-week roadmap

The body heals best at home — but only when the environment is set up correctly. Here is the structured 4-week roadmap we follow for orthopaedic, abdominal and cardiac post-op patients.

Week 1 — Stabilise

  • Daily nursing visits for dressings and vitals
  • Pain management and medication scheduling
  • Breathing exercises to prevent pneumonia
  • Family training on transfers and hygiene

Week 2 — Mobilise gently

  • Bedside physiotherapy begins
  • Wound review and suture removal if needed
  • Nutrition plan from our dietitian

Week 3 — Strengthen

  • Progressive walking with support
  • Stair practice and balance training
  • Doctor tele-review and medication tapering

Week 4 — Return to routine

  • Full daily activities under supervision
  • Discharge from home-care or transition to weekly visits

Patients on this structured pathway have a readmission rate under 4% — well below the national average of 12–15%.
