Home healthcare in India is largely unregulated. Anyone can call themselves a 'home nurse'. Use this checklist before signing any agreement.
Non-negotiables
- NABH-aligned protocols and written SOPs
- Verified nursing council registration for every nurse
- Background-checked, in-house staff — not freelancers
- A named care manager you can call 24×7
- Clear escalation pathway to a hospital partner
- Transparent, itemised pricing — no surprise add-ons
Good signs
- Free home assessment before any commitment
- Daily written nursing notes shared with the family
- Doctor oversight included in the package
- Willingness to start with a short trial
Red flags
- Asks for large upfront payments
- No written care plan
- Cannot name the supervising doctor
- Replaces nurses every few days without notice
